A Day Of Firsts

Today The Boy had his first (washcloth) bath. I would’ve taken pictures but we were so incompetent at it that it took all 4 of our hands to accomplish.

He also went on his first walk outside in his stroller. We only made it about 2/3 of the way to the end of the street before we had to turn back due to mom having had surgery 11 days ago and it being about 100 degrees outside.

He also got his first piece of mail…

…so now there’s nothing stopping him from getting his first job.

Update

Nathan spent his first night out of NICU and in our room last night. He was pretty fussy, and we didn’t get much sleep. As soon as the sun came up he passed out, and he has been pretty calm all day.

He had his first non-family, non-NICU visitor today when Nancy came by with food for Elaine. She got to see his first big smile, which was probably a result of farting, but was still adorable.

We’ll have some more visitors tonight, and then tomorrow we all go home.

Nathaniel Stuart McGinty

Nathaniel Stuart McGinty was born last night at 9:34. He weighed 8 lbs 2 oz and was just shy of 20 inches long. He was face up, so after 2 hours of pushing he was delivered by c-section.

He had a bit of trouble breathing at first, and was grey and silent. He started breathing after about a minute and started to pink up. His extremities stayed grayish for awhile, so they admitted him to the NICU to give him oxygen and fluids and monitor his progress. He did great and the oxygen came off around 2am. He’s still there, as NICU doctors seem like cautious people, but he should be out today or tomorrow at the latest. Elaine is recovering well and looking forward to breaking him out.
